Unsung Volunteers

• Rumor has it that Blaggo's sandbag total was 0. Seems fair. He hasn't sh*t for Illinois or west central Illinois yet. Why start now.
  
• FYI: Fire WILL NOT sandbag. I have my reasons so stop txting me to help.
• QHW FYI: Your saturday delivery of the "quincy answers book" missed my doorknob by about 30 feet.
• Is bottled water now a requirement for sandbagging operations? Before bottled water, we just drank out of the hose.
• Want to get more people sandbagging? Bring out the beer trucks. Quincyians will shovel sh*t into bags if beer is involved.
  
• "23.6 This level is expected to be met or exceeded on average once every 25 years." You'd think someone would revise this statement on NOAA's web site seeing that it has occurred 3 times in 15 years. Get out your slide rule and recalculate.
• BTW: the above statement is from a "confirmed source" - NOAA. Don't mean Sh*t does it?
• Fire has confirmed that the sun will rise at 5:36am and set at 8:36 today. First reported on Quincy Fire. Also a Quincy Fire Exclusive. LMFAO!

Attention - Quincy and Adams County

This is just an FYI !!!! - READ IT NOW!

There are storm chasers from around the country in Quincy today and more are planning on arriving throughout the day.

The storm system that we are hearing about for tomorrow’s weather is a potential large storm. The chasers usually head to where the storm will form and then they chase from there. We are right in the area where the storm should form.

If it forms to the West of us, we could get a major hit. If it forms on top of us, we could have some damage. If it forms to the east of us, we could be spared.

I spoke with Brian Inman who confirmed this information. It appears that the storm will form on top of us or right to the east of us but be aware of everything with the weather tomorrow.

Do not ignore any weather alerts as this is a potentially large storm. Storm chasers just don’t drive into your town for nothing. This is a storm that has been forming for a while and there are apparently many, many factors that bring these storm chasers into a town.

It is unknown as to when this storm will hit or if we are looking at a storm system that could hit off and on throughout the day and night.

Just be prepared – have batteries for flashlights, water to drink, etc.

Here is some FACTS on storm chasing:

How often do chasers see tornadoes? Most experienced chasers don't keep close score -- since tornadoes are only a part of the experience -- but the loose average is about 1 in 5 to 1 in 10 trips. This, of course, depends on one's personal thresholds for what kinds of weather situations to chase, and the chaser's definition of and tolerance for busts. Some very talented chasers willing to drive after almost any severe weather threat have gone 50 or 60 chases and several years without seeing a single tornado. During unusually active periods, others may see several per day for up to a week. On the very rarest of days, those once in a lifetime events like 3 May 1999, a chaser may see 10 or 15 tornadoes. Others may never experience a day like that; and anyone who expects to see a tornado every trip will quickly become disappointed, frustrated and disillusioned. Tornadoes are just not very common

Having local area food stores ( Hy-Vee, County Market) team up with Quincy recycle and place modified trash containers at stores. The bins would be similar to what Waste Management uses that are hauled for residential use on the back of their trucks. Very little handling and filled containers could be trucked down to recycle to grind up for shipment to STL.*

*Got this idea form the olden days when soda used to come in 16 returnable glass bottles. Soda bottles were charged a deposit and the deposit was collected when the empty bottles were returned to the store. No one has a problem hauling the glass containers that are purchased at local food stores home, why not make it convenient to haul them back and dispose of them for recycle ??

Brent Holtman saw the Harley-Davidson Road Kings sitting forlornly in the corner of the Quincy Police Department garage.

Unused and dirty, the bikes hadn't been ridden for at least a year. Holtman decided it was time to do something.

QPD leases the FLHPI Police Road King motorcycles from TNT Action Sports in Quincy for $200 a month.

So. Two bikes sat for a year, not being used. Were the taxpayers leasing them for $200 a month during this time?



From the looks of the 2007 COQ Annual Report, TNT was paid $5075.20.

A Pizza Hut restaurant near downtown was offering pizza and “pot” to go before the manager was arrested Friday, according to a police news release.

Fort Smith Police Department narcotics officers assisted Arkansas Beverage Control agent J. C. Rider’s investigation into reports that the manager of the restaurant at 1813 Grand Ave. was selling marijuana from the drivethrough window.

Investigators were told that several employees were smoking marijuana inside the restaurant.

A search of the business uncovered about 6 ounces of marijuana and a set of digital scales in a briefcase.

The U.S. Geologic Survey reported that the earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.4.The USGS Web site said the quake was centered in southern Illinois near West Salem, Ill., about 40 miles north of Evansville, Ind., but was felt as far away as Milwaukee, 350 miles to the north.

It struck at about 5:37 a.m.

Police called to ‘stand by’ after
student removed from QND


A Quincy Notre Dame High School student was removed from the school’s campus Thursday morning and Quincy police were called to “stand by in the area.”

Quincy Police Lt. Dennis Bingheim said QND administrators asked for officers to “stand by in the area” when a student was told to leave. No arrests were made, Bingheim said.

Of course, it's QND.

No police report was made, and Bingheim referred further questions to the QND administration.

No Comment Please. Please.

Principal Ray Heilmann said he could not comment about the case or confirm that a student was removed.

Well somebody did.

He denied reports from some students and parents that the school was locked down and students were not allowed to leave the building or enter the school gymnasium without being escorted by a faculty member because of the incident.

Stop. Please stop asking questions. This is bad press!

“There was never an issue of concern or safety,” Heilmann said. “It was just more proactive.”

QPD is always called for "stand-by in the area". These also include Bomb threats, Hostage situations and Bank hold ups. Never an issue of safety or concern here either.

Heilmann acknowledged that students were kept inside the building during lunch from 10:53 a.m. to 12:33 p.m. Thursday, in part “because of the pouring rain.”

NWS at Baldwin International Airport in Quincy reports that weather conditions Thursday between 10:54am and 11:54 was overcast, 61 degrees and only received 0.17 inches of rain.
