The trough never ends for City Hall

Glad to see the city is flush with cash again so the mayor, aldermen and department heads could spend a few days in a five-star hotel in Chicago.

These conferences are nothing more than taxpayer-paid vacations and people ought to let the folks in City Hall know they are sick of it.

By the way, I understand no Republican aldermen went on the trip.

What? I missed that story. That's a great idea, everyone needs a taxpayer-paid vacation. Maybe Obama can work that into his next "support small business" bill.

There was no story. The city boys have learned not to let the press know when they are leaving town because they know these junkets are highly unpopular.

I certainly hope someone finds out the price tag on this vacation, but I won't hold my breath

How about a list of the alderman and who they work for

What was it for and who all went?

QHW wouldn't have said a thing to inform the public. Hell, EH probally went with them!

My wife wants to shop on Michigan Ave
how about giving us advance notice
of their next trip, maybe she can ride along

I hear the aldermen are given money in advance and don't have to produce receipts.

Why don't you just make a request to speak at the next council meeting and ask them or him yourself?

The trip is for the Illinois Municiple League yearly get together. There are expo's and seminar's to educate elected and other municiple employees and officals. I have no problem paying a few tax dollars for my alderman etc. to get an education to do their job better. But do all the extra people in the administration and every alderman have to go every year? Also, I think the people who attend should be required to attend, and produce proof of attending, the educational seminars or pay the money back. I suggest that somebody publish the list of the people attending from Quincy and the payout and ask them what they did in Chi Town that was of benefit to the taxpayers investment in the trip. I applaud the folks, many aldermen and Copley I know of, that did not attend in these tough economic times.

Isnt EH on schools now? I heard only one reporter even bothered going to the teacher negotiations Tuesday night and it wasn't Ed. Yet his story sounds like he was there. What's up with that?

Trust me - if the administration OR taxpayers insisted on aldermen producing list showing which classes/seminars they attended - you would find the answer is zero for most if not all. This is not an opinion, it is based on what was fact at least a few years back......

Maybe the hard hitting ED H. will drill the mayor next golf outing and ask him these hard hitting questions.

NOT !!!!!!

They should at the very least give a report of their activities at the council meeting following the conference.
