An Inconvenient Truth

in·con·ven·ient

adjective

not convenient; specif.,

1. not favorable to one's comfort; difficult to do, use, or get to; causing trouble or bother; unhandy

  1. Obsolete not appropriate

Holding a press conference to announce that glass will be collected at a single downtown location and only during a single day with limited hours.

con·ven·ient

adjective

1. adding to one's comfort; easy to do, use, or get to; causing little trouble or work; handy

2. easily accessible (to); near (to)

Having local area food stores ( Hy-Vee, County Market) team up with Quincy recycle and place modified trash containers at stores. The bins would be similar to what Waste Management uses that are hauled for residential use on the back of their trucks. Very little handling and filled containers could be trucked down to recycle to grind up for shipment to STL.*

*Got this idea form the olden days when soda used to come in 16 returnable glass bottles. Soda bottles were charged a deposit and the deposit was collected when the empty bottles were returned to the store. No one has a problem hauling the glass containers that are purchased at local food stores home, why not make it convenient to haul them back and dispose of them for recycle ??

Sunday Rapid Fire

Brent Holtman saw the Harley-Davidson Road Kings sitting forlornly in the corner of the Quincy Police Department garage.

Unused and dirty, the bikes hadn't been ridden for at least a year. Holtman decided it was time to do something.

QPD leases the FLHPI Police Road King motorcycles from TNT Action Sports in Quincy for $200 a month.

Article here.

So. Two bikes sat for a year, not being used. Were the taxpayers leasing them for $200 a month during this time?

From the looks of the 2007 COQ Annual Report, TNT was paid $5075.20.

Guess we were.

Gather 'round the good stuff......

A Pizza Hut restaurant near downtown was offering pizza and “pot” to go before the manager was arrested Friday, according to a police news release.

Fort Smith Police Department narcotics officers assisted Arkansas Beverage Control agent J. C. Rider’s investigation into reports that the manager of the restaurant at 1813 Grand Ave. was selling marijuana from the drivethrough window.

Investigators were told that several employees were smoking marijuana inside the restaurant.

A search of the business uncovered about 6 ounces of marijuana and a set of digital scales in a briefcase.

Please Stand by....

Police called to ‘stand by’ after
student removed from QND

A Quincy Notre Dame High School student was removed from the school’s campus Thursday morning and Quincy police were called to “stand by in the area.”

Quincy Police Lt. Dennis Bingheim said QND administrators asked for officers to “stand by in the area” when a student was told to leave. No arrests were made, Bingheim said.

Of course, it's QND.

No police report was made, and Bingheim referred further questions to the QND administration.

No Comment Please. Please.

Principal Ray Heilmann said he could not comment about the case or confirm that a student was removed.

Well somebody did.

He denied reports from some students and parents that the school was locked down and students were not allowed to leave the building or enter the school gymnasium without being escorted by a faculty member because of the incident.

Stop. Please stop asking questions. This is bad press!

“There was never an issue of concern or safety,” Heilmann said. “It was just more proactive.”

QPD is always called for "stand-by in the area". These also include Bomb threats, Hostage situations and Bank hold ups. Never an issue of safety or concern here either.

Heilmann acknowledged that students were kept inside the building during lunch from 10:53 a.m. to 12:33 p.m. Thursday, in part “because of the pouring rain.”

NWS at Baldwin International Airport in Quincy reports that weather conditions Thursday between 10:54am and 11:54 was overcast, 61 degrees and only received 0.17 inches of rain.

This could have been titled " QND Damage Control 101 "

Rapid Fire: Sunday News

A front page story on how slow the USPS is.

Really?

Must be a damed slow news week.

What burns my ass is what all started this "front page story".

Let's see if I can keep this straight.

Packets for Aldermen that are mailed out Friday afternoon fail to reach them by Monday nights city council meeting.

Let's just say for this story that the USPS does deliver the packets Monday on time. Most mail delivers in the afternoon. Barring any non-working aldermen, most would read their mail sometime after coming home at 5 pm. This gives them a maximum time of 2 1/2 hours to read the packets before the 7:30 council meeting. The taxpayers pay a minimum of $.41 for each packet mailed for this service and reliability is about nil.

First question that comes to my mind is that is it worth $.41 cents each to mail out packets that aldermen will receive a whopping 150 minutes before a meeting? Unless some railroading tactics are used by the aldermen to give a short notice to pass something quickly, couldn't they just be handed out before the meeting?

So let's see, the next brainstorm the city officials can come up with is to hand deliver the packets to the 14 alderman.

Late breaking news from the YOU-GOT-TO-BE-SHITTING-ME newswire:

We pay a city employee $12.oo a hour to drive around Quincy in a city wheels using $3.00+ a gallon gas to hand deliver 14 alderman packets ?

I know, I'm using a lot of assumptions here.

1. The city employee only makes $12.00 an hour.
2. Only 1 employee is used to deliver these packets.
3. The packets are delivered Friday afternoon vs. Monday afternoon.

The think tank of Quincy Fire which consists of myself, two dogs, a 30 pack of beer, beef jerky and the remote has a better suggestion:

E-MAIL THEM.

Cost: $0.00
Delivery: Instant
Reliability: High

DirecTv Issues

Q: How can you tell when the cable company is lying to you?

A: Their lips are moving.

"any future changes in pricing will be a reflection of Comcast's investment in quality service and system reliability. We will be sure to give you and our customers notification of any price adjustments at least 30 days in advance."......

We got the notice, but what about the Quality service ?

"at this time.".........

That must have meant during the length of the city council meeting rates would not change.

How quick was this? The majority of Insight internet users don't even have their e-mail address changed over to the comcast domain yet.
