The Union Difference

A dedicated Machinists Lodge union worker was attending a convention in Quincy and decided to check out the local brothels nearby.

When he got to the first one, he asked the madam, "Is this a union house?"

"No," she replied, "I'm sorry it isn't."

"Well, if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?"

"The house gets $80 and the girls get $20." She says.

Mightily offended at such unfair dealings, the man stomped off down the street in search of a more equitable, hopefully unionized shop.

His search continued until finally he reached a brothel where the madam happily responded, "Why yes sir, this IS A UNION HOUSE!"

The man asked, "And if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?"

"The Girls get $80 and the house gets $20."

"That's more like it!" the diehard union man said.

He looked around the room and pointed to a stunningly young, thin, busty, attractive blonde.

"I'd like her for the night."

"I'm sure you would, sir," said the madam, then, gesturing to an obese, gray haired sixty-three year old woman in the corner, "but Pearl here has seniority."

That's the "Union Difference"

Still laugh at that one, and more truth to it than you know.

"The one thing I would like to stress is to give these trucks some room," said Steinkamp.

Hell yes!

They've been drinking!

In Schutte's defense, I am given to understand that he was not on call, he was completely off duty. Therefore there is no reason to rag on him for having a few beers with friends while watching Sunday Night Football.

In defense of those ragging on Schutte, they are absolutely correct in saying that when he got the call to go drive the plow he should have said "Hey boss, I've been watching football and tossing back a few. It might not be a good idea for me to go out for a while."

Regardless of whether the ax was his fault or not, he ought to lose his license for being over 0.4 (the level for CDL drivers) while on duty--the prescribed result.

It looks like that won't happen, so why would ANYone be surprised that people are pissed off that he "did it and got away with it"?

I feel bad for Schutte possibly losing his license when it could have just been a few beers early in the evening or alcohol in cold medication but the rules are clear and he knew them. If there was a serious accident where he was at fault he and his supervisers at city hall would be in serious legal trouble. A victim's family may even end up owning a taxpayer funded hydropower company.

No Defense for Schutte
City employees are on an A shift and B shift. This rotates weekly during snow season. He knew he was on call that week in case of snow or ice control. If you are on the nite shift and they are calling for snow you know you might get called so don't drink. You are on day shift that week you know you can have a few because you will not get called out.

That's fine, except that according to a source in Central Services, he was NOT on call. His week on call is THIS week, not LAST week.

So...unless someone leaks the actual A and B lists and schedules, I guess we're stuck on whether or not there's any defense.

But in either case the point still stands--if he'd had a few, he should have said so and not gone out.

City worker union-turd types never cease to amaze me.

Glad to see we have a union holding our city hostage so the city will end up like GM, Dodge, and that joke of a 172 public school distict.

Let's hear it for unions!

Just heard that the US is out 30 billion in the auto bailout, no payback expected, thanks to the UAW.

We need to get rid of that city worker union and hire some immigrants to pick up the trash and put barricades up, pave tavern parking lots...etc
