The $20 million riverfront condominium project, which the city considers the cornerstone of a riverfront renaissance, is on hold while developers wait out the nation's economic downturn.
Sheila Morgan of Shortridge Construction confirmed Friday morning that the project has been delayed indefinitely.
"It's just on hold until after the financial mess straightens out," Morgan said. "We would be hopeful late winter or early spring (to resume), but it depends on how long this thing drags on."

why don't they just turn downtown into the large pool with the aquarium hanging off the cliffs instead of the condos. Then those who come to town for the new Salvation Army will have somewhere to entertain themselves with (hopefully) free passes
Two words...Quinsippi Island.
Donnie bought some of the trains and skyride from the glory days of Quinsippi Island. Maybe he could trade them to city to wipe out his inflated debt the city created out of thin air.
Can't blame them for trying but anything they build needs to be 100% self-sufficient and privately paid-for and not on the taxpayer dime.
The park district should lease the land to whoever is willing to develop it and then once it is finished, sell it to them for a pre-negotiated price.
Quincy needs someone like Winegard in Burlington who developed Fun City....but that is all tied to a Casino.
Does anyone know how the indoor waterpark in Dubuque was funded? That city seems some years ahead of Quincy vis'a'vis riverfront development.

That's right! Their local casino funded a big part of it. HMMMM...Dubuque, Burlington, Waterloo, Davenport...excellent riverfront developments and all have a Casino. Trend?
Can we hit a rewind button to 10 years ago when Quincy City Council decided not to agressively push for river-front casino development?
The only person who will come out ok on the proposed Riverfront Museum project will be Bob Mays.
I am just not even close to sold on this boondoggle . Every damn time I read "tourists" and "Quincy" I puke in my mouth .
The only way folks would flock here is if Disney built a theme park here and that will never happen .

I say we start simple . Lets enhance the stuff we have and try and fix our local economy . Lets see what the residents want from our park system .
