A proposal to authorize the Quincy/Adams County 911 Governing Board to borrow $1.3 million to finance various costs associated with the implementation of an enhanced 911 system ran into choppy water at the Quincy City Council's Finance Committee meeting Monday night.
The 911 Governing Board wants to borrow $1.3 million to help finance the construction of a new 911 communication center and the need to buy an enhanced 911 network, telephone and radio communication equipment and other costs.

Also include the WETSA funds that will be exhausted by May. Around $800,000.

Read the post again and need to correct my previous comment. $270,000. and $405,000. amounts were carried over into the current fiscal year and will be exhausted along with the WETSA funds by May '06. Also consider that when E-911 is online annual operating budgets will increase up to 25%.

Your right, $39 is a lot for one phone call. However, I don’t believe the 911 governing board, of which I am a member, is planning on borrowing $1.3M dollars every year.
Adams County has a history of getting many years use from their facilities. The current courthouse is over 50 years old; the recently replaced Youth Home served the County for 50 years, and the County Highway building at 36th & Broadway was in use from 1939 through 1986, only 47 years.
The new 911 Center should last the average 50 years, which would bring the cost of a call for our $1.7M down to $0.79.
Thanks for your time,
Nick Peters

The Senor has been hurt. Quincy Underground has been systematically deleting my posts for several days now. Ostensibly, they banned me due to recent profanity laced postings... but the profanity came after having many rational posts ignored and then deleted. Some would say I was weak and that profanity is the last refuge of someone with no argument. I say, no, profanity is the second to last refuge. The last refuge is deleting someone's $@#&%* posts.

Anyway, I have decided to answer them with my own blog... a profanity laced, derisive and otherwise pointless blog. But, then again, that's pretty much what the Quincy Underground is sans dirty words, huh?

So, please click on my name, Senor Badass, make the worthless journey to a web-based monument to my pettiness. Be warned, if you are easily offended... you will be offended. Thank you.

Don't think the $1.3 million was included in these figures. This is the 04-05 operating budget. Even if you remove the "capital" numbers from the figures, it comes to $5.11 for EVERY call into the 911 center. That's still $23.96 for only the 911 calls. Although the county might get may years for the building, not very many electronic items will last over 4 years. This will force the need for additional capital expences each and every time techonolgy inproves.

Senor Badass has every right to make himself look like an idiot. I congratulate him on his success.
