Can I Lease Ya Some Land ???

Those who will save the city money...

Voting against the measure were Aldermen Mike Farha, R-4, Tony Sassen, R-4, and Paul Havermale, R-3.

Farha and Sassen said they felt the cost was too expensive.

"I don't think we should be leasing the land," Sassen added.

Those who don't have a clue....

Alderman Steve Duesterhaus, D-3, said he thought the city got a good deal by having Waterkotte build the lot and lease it to the city.

"This looks like an economical method to expand our parking," he said.

Mayor John Spring agreed, saying the city's cost estimate for building the parking lot was more than $100,000.

Best Quote...

Mayor John Spring agreed, saying the city's cost estimate for building the parking lot was more than $100,000.

"And, quite frankly, if we had to purchase the property, our improvements would have been substantially more," Spring said.

Here's a hint:

The Quincy City Council voted 10-3 to spend $95,100 over the next five years and possibly $200,000 over 20 years

When you lease the land, at the end of the lease you own nothing !!!

Thanks Mayor.

And when Amtrak cuts service? Sure would be nice if Mayor $pringy had a bright idea that didn't cost top dollar. Is it time for another new HVAC system at city hall ? The current one seems to be restricting oxygen. Hey what about buying a shuttle so people could park inside the OLC when they ride the rails. Kill two birds so to speak.

Heck w/ Amtraks, here's the real story that came out of monday's CCmeeting, from Quincy News .org:

Check out the exchange between alderman Bumbry and Copely at last nights CC meeting! Fascinating, simply fascinating!! Is it bad thing when an alderman is a witness to a drug deal?

I guess it's totally out of the question to ask QPD to shift focus from seatbelts & speeding to overt drug and gang activity in the good ole NW Quincy area, especially in light of the discussion the alderman and police chief just had in a CC meeting!

Keep up the focus on the speeders and the seat belts, by gosh, and let em party at the 9th & Lind St. club w/ the gang, heck with the resdients who live down there, they'll just have endure, I guess. It's okay to sling Caine, , have their own nightclub in the street, pop caps off, and pop one in a mf-er's ass (no murder charges yet in that case, just those that were dumb enough to come out a da house $ had warrants, just don't be not wearin your seatbelt & going 25 in a school zone.

From QN .org :

Bumbry said the area from 7th to 10th on Lind is busting with suspicious activity at from 3 to 4 a.m. most days and he asked Copley to watch that neighborhood.

Hello, I thought everyone that didn't have their I's dotted and T's crossed was supposed to get pulled over? And you have an alderman calling you out on it? Lame.

Honestly, if I'm (and likely any John Q. Public Joe 6-pack job worker, taxpayer, parent, walk a straight liner) driving down the State or Broadway, 24th or 36th, etc I can literally sense, or anticipate, police presence, whether the police are there or not, and am that much more on my P’s and Q's, trying to make sure not to speed, have belt on, etc, due to the recent traffic enforcement efforts. Like no other time in 40 years of living in Quincy do I feel as "surveilled" in Quincy just driving down the road as in recent times. Not like I’m doing anything wrong, but I, and likely everyone else, has the mindset that “better do it right or will get nailed”.

Is it too much to ask that the drug dealers in "NW Quincy" be made to have that same sense of anticipation, police presence, and trepidation in their minds? That’s all I’m asking.

Let's break this baby down and simplify it! For example, if QPD were have 5 or six officers working seatbelt and school zone patrol, cut it back to 3-4, and put the other 2-3 on "NW Quincy" detail, or something like that. That's all.

It's likely a perception issue, made worse by the recent alderman's statements. Just want to be assured that the QPD’s priorities are appropriate, and appropriately flexible.

If such steps could be made, and the chief announce them, that would be great. Right now the perception is that QPD said they were going to pull everyone over for every little minor offense in the NW area, but the thugs are selling crack in plain view of an alderman in NW Quincy.

That's the problem also, too many peolpe have the attitude that you describe, they "cozy' up to the out of town drug dealers. I just hope QPD is doing everything they can to protect the citizens of NW Quincy that, these days, feel powerless to and are fearful of the out-of-town drug dealers and gang-bangers. I felt sorry for those that were afraid to be identified on camera and those that spoke at the Redmon Lee mtg and described the conditions and fear they have to live with.

First of all I'm not a Spring fan, but there were only two options to improve the parking at the train station. Purchase the property and build the lot at prevailing wages or lease the lot with with the improvements already done. I think they chose the least expensive and the most expedient option. Secondly, who is to say what the needs are in 5 years. We taxpayers got screwed a lot more with the Maine St. Tap

So we vote to spend $295,000 to save $100,000 up front .

Just like you can sling caine in the hood with apparent impunity, but fart the wrong way in a school zone, and your family won't be eating that month.

Gas today in Quincy $3.69, Hannibal $3.47. Does Spring care?
