What burns my ASS...

  • How long does it take to demolish the old RTD building out east Broadway? Ever heard of a wrecking ball?
  • Why does every vehicle that the Fire Dept. or QPD owns have to be dressed up like "Pimp My Ride"?
  • How many people in the city STILL don't know how to use the double left hand turn lanes in town?
  • Why during a murder, missing person, or other crime does the local law enforcement hold a press conference and then not answer any questions?
  • Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has spent $76,000 on taxpayer-financed flights between Chicago and Springfield since late May. Hell, for that price IDOT could have hired 2 gardeners for West Central Illinois.
  • How many rules and regulations can members of the city planning department, city administration, and city attorneys add to building a Beer Garden to make it totally impossible for bars to build one?
  • Wanted: Airport Manager. Qualifications: TBA. ( We'll pick out the best ones off your resume and later tell everyone that's what we were looking for.)
  • Ohio State law forbids public officials from hiring close relatives either full or part time or influencing their employment. Holy Crap ! Who do they hire? The best person qualified for the job?
  • Insight vs. Comcast vs. ATT - this can't be good news.
  • Sodium benzoate found in many soft drinks and various food products has been found to damage the mitochondria in DNA. Lesson here? Before committing a crime, slam down some Diet Cokes so no DNA shows up at the crime scene.
  • Chief of Police, Police Aldermanic Committee, Director of Administrative Services and Director of Purchasing recommending approval of the low proposal of Overhead Door of Quincy in the amount of $12,200 for a new overhead garage door. HOW BIG IS THE FREAKING DOOR ?? $12,000 ????
  • 1.3 million for HVAC work to city hall ? What does this figure out to, $550 per square foot?
  • The Quincy Park District will hold a customer appreciation day Sat June 23 ?? I didn't know I was a "customer"? Taxes for the Park District are included in my property taxes. Maybe I'll have to shop around for another Park District.

The problem with the bidding process in the city of Quincy is the reason you have a $12,000 fucking garage door. The low bidder was Overhead Door because only 2 entities bid the job and both know they are the only ones so they stick it to the city. I'll bet one could take the specs to Home Depot or Lowes or even better yet an Overhead Door in a town outside of the Tri-States and tell them the door is for your pole barn and you would get a bid at 2/3's the price. The bid process needs to be augmented with a purchaser that will hunt down the lowest price and then put it out for bid, if they come in cheaper than the lowest hunted quote then they would get the job.

Unless the door had to be terrorist proof for all of those jihadists roaming around Kwincy.

Yes that HVAC deal another shit deal for the people of Quincy. We scrimp and save and use our air only when it gets up in the 90's but not the city they have to have it on nonstop Sucking up our tax dollars because they don't care about your pocket book.

You're right. They don't care, it's not their money.

Not only do they hire their relatives, they vote on their kids contracts...using our money. No shame.

UMR will be by shortly to explain the benefits of hiring relatives and friends using himself as an example.

"How many rules and regulations can members of the city planning department, city administration, and city attorneys add to building a Beer Garden to make it totally impossible for bars to build one?"

Answer: Depends on how many of the bar owners are Catholic.

On the Beer Garden thing, they aren't talking about "adding rules and regulations" to prevent bar owners from opening beer gardens.

In fact if owners want to lay a slab and put a fence around it, it's covered. But if they want to add a roof it becomes a structural expansion and that's a problem in a non-conforming usage (which Uncle Bob's is).

The aldermen looked at regulations from seven Illinois cities. None of the regulations are too far out.

City wants to make sure, particularly with non-conforming usage, that a) no noise or light issues with the neighbors, b) bar owners are paying attention to the beer garden to prevent problems (fights, etc.), c) that everything conforms to liquor laws AND to the new smoking ban.

BTW, as the new state law is written, beer gardens would be considered part of the bar if they are served by staff and even though outdoors would NOT be a place where people could smoke.

And the city is likely going to require that bar owners monitor beer gardens which will likely qualify as "serving" them, so no smoking there either.

Bar owners probably should save their money instead of putting in beer gardens to allow smoking. In most cases it still isn't going to be allowed.

BTW are you a Lawyer? Do you have any legal background? If not, leave the legal stuff to people who know the law and can interpret the laws as it reads. QHW has filled us up with the duh, duh, duh, we don't know.

Adolf Copley has already taken his guess.

I guess the city attorney is not working this week.

PITTSBURGH -- The mothers of five young children killed in a house fire surrendered to police yesterday to face involuntary manslaughter charges for leaving the youngsters alone while they went to a bar.

Fire,
I had a thought about this that I wrote about on my blog this weekend.
I am fairly neutral on this thing, so I have no dog in the fight. And I do not smoke.

I really liked your bullet point number two except I think it gives WalMart/NASCAR nation too much credit. It's more like "Lanes? Is that what those little stripey things are for?"

This is 3:11.

I don't need a lawyer to understand the implications of the law. Nor do I need you to explain it to me.

I was THERE. Where were you?

Anonymous said...

Oh, and 6:11?

The city attorney disagreed with much of Chief R.'s "interpretation" of the state anti-smoking law.

Which you would have known, except you weren't there.

I guess being THERE makes all the difference.

I know how the Titanic went down because I was THERE.

Being THERE still does not make you an EXPERT on a conversation.

Why is it that the people in this town don't complain about the quality of medical care coming out of Blessing and QMG? I'm a personal trainer and recently took a client into the ER with a ruptured Achilles tendon diagnosed by myself. I have had an 18 year career in the fitness profession. After explaining to the doc what happened, he recommended an X-Ray,which you all know is for bone injuries.
I felt that my client was being run through the system with the main objective being to charge her unnecessary treatment. Blessing let her go with a diagnosis of badly strained calf muscle. For 2 weeks my client labored on her foot trusting the Blessing doc, then she sought a 2nd opinion which resulted in an MRI, showing a complete rupture of an ACHILLES TENDON.
Did I mention I was a high school dropout? (GED)
