Haven't you learned anything from JJ's reign...
1) So that means every time I order two beers at a local bar they are breaking the law too?
2) Bitch about the Gems/OLCC when they are in the red, and then kick them while they're down when trying to make money.
Pretty easy to see how things are around here.....
I think Fire was merely pointing out that the way they are marketing this is illegal. There are ways around this.
Just as I'm saying EVERY bar in IL is breaking the law if I purchase two beers at once. Looks pretty apparent to me that it's illegal to buy a round for your buddies, but only if people bitch about the law will big brother decide to enforce it.
Careful what you wish for. The next Catholic boozefest may limit one beer at a time!
11v33 read the bold print again. It's a single person.
What if the bartender doesn't know if one person buying a round of drinks is actually going to a group of people? If you walk into any bar, buy THREE beers, walk away, drink them to yourself, the bar has broken the law. Right?
Again, complaining about big brother one minute and then calling a business out for "breaking a law" is a bit hypocritical.
Who buys themselves two beers/cocktails at one time for their own consumption? O.K. besides JJ?
And when you buy a bucket of beers?
Who buys themselves two beers/cocktails at one time for their own consumption?
EVERYONE at a Cathlic boozefest, lots of dollar bottle specials around town. Big crowd? More double-fisting.
to all the anons:
Google "Illinois Happy Hour" and within the first 3 finds you will see "Promotions such as 2-for-1 drinks, or any type
of promotion which discounts drinks at a 2-for-
1 or greater (3-1) price, are prohibited."
It not about kicking them while they're down or being hypocritical, It's about the law. I sent 2 friendly emails and got no response from the OLCC. It was kinda the "we know better than you" kind of non-response I have recieved in the past.
I fully support the gems and will gladly enjoy the 2 for 1 drinks. Just would to enjoy it all season and would have felt bad if they lost their liquor lic. cause they promoted 2 for 1 drinks rather than half priced beer. Petty as it is, it's the law.
"I sent 2 friendly emails and got no response from the OLCC. It was kinda the "we know better than you" kind of non-response I have recieved in the past."
Ever think the phrase "in the past" might mean "being a pain in the ass?" If someone is nagging me all the time they're probably going to be ignored too. You think your email is so special that it goes into a MUST REPLY folder? I doubt you're the only one to whine to them about this, so to the trash it goes... with all the rest.
"I fully support the gems and will gladly enjoy the 2 for 1 drinks."
Bullshit! If you fully supported the Gems you would gladly enjoy the 2 for 1 drinks and keep your mouth shut about them. As stated over and over already... everyone else does it and people turn a blind eye, so why can't they?
Dear anonymous; I stop by a few of the bottle special joints and still never see anyone buy themselves two drinks so they can drink one cold and one warm. Do you?
Here's a touchy question Fire:
Would you cry foul if you saw someone smoking in a bar in Illinois too?
JDH,
I bartend a local nightclub and see it all the time. Mostly younger male crowd, impatient with waiting for service on a busy night. Double-fisting.
- Erin
Thanks for the useful comment Erin. Since I don't bartend or hit the clubs, I guess I miss the kids wanting to get buzzed.
Special Barley
Do you have a reading disorder that you might share with us?
You assume WAY too much.
Read the law.
I think hops and barely (hee hee) needs to read #6 also.

They are advertising it AND promoting it.
Don't think he reads.
H&FB
Name one, repeat, Name ONE bar in Quincy, ADAMS county that advertises 2 for 1 beers.
I await your reply.
UGH you people are dense.

See: Doublefisting. ONCE AGAIN; everyone else is breaking one of these laws, so why can't they? I've been asking that question ALL ALONG!!!
Also, I'm curious too. Fire, having run a blog about IL going smoke-free, what would you to if you saw patrons smoking in a bar? Write an email to them too?
The Mayor is the liquor commissioner. Ask him.

So if one person breaks the law, it's ok for everyone ???? WTF ? Not EVERYONE or for the fact ANYONE I know of is ADVERTISING 2 for 1 drinks.
Smoking in a bar? Really ? There are several bars in Quincy that allow smoking inside. Do I care? no. Would they lose their License over it? No.
If the "bar" was funded by taxpayer dollars and went to the press saying that their baseball "bar" program was running in the red and they needed a promotion to raise money that was prohibited by the states liquor laws ? I might.
AND...
Here a question back at ya...
Why do the Gems seek a permit to light fireworks during the forth of July ? Everyone else in the city is setting off fireworks and breaking the law ? Is it OK to just follow the laws you want ?

BTW
The previous emails prior to this were NOT about this but were for ideas for the OLCC to have an event to maybe RAISE some cash for the place. There was also a request for a quote on renting the place for a wedding. If thats how you run business, fine with me but don't cry when your going broke and can't find events.
I got no response from any emails I have sent.
Thanks for your uninformed assumption tho and thanks for stopping by.
Fire
They have a phone number too, you know... (217) 223-1000
Maybe send them a telegraph too.
I'd suggest mailing a letter, but then I'd be accused of the government telling you what to do.

NO MORE BUCKETS OF BEER AT KUTTERS THEN!!!!
LMAO !
Thanks for stopping by!
Or u can just buy one "pitcher" of beer, thus avoiding the unlawful '2fer 1 bottle'. Oh the humanity...
Whig's story: http://www.whig.com/story/news/Gems-Beer-Deal-062411
QNO's story: ____________________?
Gee, you'd think QNO would cover this, guess they're too busy exposing the details of the 6 million dollar hydro fiasco. Wtf? Where are their priorities? (sarcasm)
anon 3:27
Well you know you wouldn't get the Hydro story from WGEM or QNI.
Might fall out of favors and not get invited to mayors christmas party.
Exposing fraud/waste is not up their alley.
anon 3:33
"Well you know you wouldn't get the Hydro story from WGEM or QNI."
They aren't?
Then what is this? (from TODAY)
http://my.wgem.com/_Quincy-Mayor-John-Spring/audio/884886/29404.html
OMG PLEASE ANON 5:38 !!
This is what we call a softball batting practice for the mayor.
He is tossed a cotton ball question about hydro and then leads the two into news about the unemployment figures which he has NOTHING to do about.
He didn't SHIT on it.
Good God, know the differance between a interview and a platform to preach from.
Yeah?
Well I know the difference between 'difference' and 'differance'
Anon 5:38 here,
I didn't say a thing about what kind of questions were asked. That guy isn't a reporter anyway. You said WGEM/QNI hasn't covered it and I'm saying you're wrong. That interview with Spring has more direct quotes than all of QNO's efforts this year combined. WTAD too.
Also hard to say I'm a WGEM bed buddy when I work for their competition.
That's because I don't think his majesty is speaking to non friendly media outlets.
I think the key word here is BALANCE. Name a time WTAD or QNO has shown BALANCE. You'll always hear what progress a Republican makes, but never the progress of a Democrat.
WTAD will interview an Ann Coulter, but never an Al Franken. QNO will always talk about Schilling's latest adventure, but is silent if Sullivan accomplishes something.
Hell, Steve McQueen can take a dump in the woods and The Morning Meeting will make him their first interview!
Balance: what liberals like to whine about when their team is getting their ass handed to them by the media.
Seems to me that the local Democrats haven't made a whole lot of "progress" in the last 3 years. Strangely enough, that's about the length of time that WTAD and QNO have been scrutinizing the local officials more closely.
Same three guys posting as anonymous, as usual.
Spring is gelded
Hare is fired
Reis is fired
Sullivan is looking for an exit because he too will be destroyed
Thanks for playing
This goes both ways:
Schilling is more concerned about bringing a village of titty bars back to life instead of... Maybe finding a business to replace Methode.
Schock dresses like he's Wiener's secret lover, then parades around Quincy (not his territory.) Lost?
Haven't heard much about Tea-drinker Mark Kirk walking hand-in-hand with Durbin.
Let's not forget Jil Tracy, who wins awards every day for her Debbie Downer speeches. Mwah mwaaaaah!
Schock is a decent guy.
