Quincy doesn't get it....

Springfield IL:

All 10 Springfield aldermen on Wednesday said they are willing to give up eight days of their own city paycheck, as many other city employees are being asked to do. Read here.

Mayor Tim Davlin continues to cut the budget for fiscal year 2010 by eliminating several programs, some of which involve overtime for city employees. In a continuing effort to find areas that can be reduced or cut, Davlin has eliminated the weekend neighborhood clean up program, eliminating the live cable casting of City Council Committee meetings, and has halted the recruitment process for entry level police patrol officers and firefighters. Read the whole story here.

Instead, Mayor Fuckstick gave everyone raises.

hey Springer, meet a stand up guy

"Davlin said he, too, will give up eight days of pay. The state constitution prohibits elected officials from raising or lowering their pay between elections, so Davlin said he plans to write a check to the city treasurer."

So why was Springer able to give himself and his aldermen a raise if state law prohibits it? Or did they take the elected official raises out?

The alderman took their 33% raise and then some voted not to give 3% to normal working people. This is the mentality of the business people in this city. We will take ours and forget you little people. Timing of the vote and persons voting should open some eyes. I doubt if things will change but I am for the little guy and gal.

There were a number of aldermen, Farha, Havermale and Sassen that voted no on the alderman and elected offical raises and voted no on the rececent raise issue. As far as the elected offical rasies and state law, the raises have to be voted on prior, I think 120 days, to an election and do not take effect until after that election. So the argument is that the elected officals did not vote themselves a raise, they voted whomever won the election a raise. I don't agree with that but thats what it is.

I see Teatsuckers, they don't know they're teatsuckers!

Too true.

Does that infer we have 2 pay scales for our alderman until the next cycle of aldermanic elections?

You can word the elected officials pay raises anyway you want. If it looks like one and walks like one and smells like one then it is ONE

Yes, The 7 aldermen elected, or up for election, this past April make $100.00 per meeting and the rest make $75.00 per meeting. So yes there are two pay scales. All the other elected officals, Mayor, Clerk, Treas., make the raises as reported as of the last April election. I think my take on this is correct, if not someone please let us know.

He implied it... you inferred it.

Getting rid of the live cablecast would be a terrible idea in Quincy. At least we get SOME opportunity to see what kind of idiot antics go on at the council meetings with it. I can never go to Monday meetings cause I'm working, but I can watch it on cable and get pissed off later. :)

I think they replay it all week so there is plenty of chances to get pissed.
