Help Wanted.....

Ahhhhh.....

Once again the "good ol' boys" hiring system is still up and running in the city's personnel department. If ya' missed the Sunday's article in the QHW by Doug Wilson, it's worth reading.

To look over Carpers "resume" and tell me that he is the best person qualified for this job, I'll show you some neighbors who are more than happy to have an ethanol plant so close to their house.

Really folks......this is NOT a political reward.

Please......

Hats off to Doug Wilson for running this story !!!

Heaven forbid we post the job, maybe get someone in there that knows safety or worked in safety for years, someone who knows osha beter than osha does. Does someone like that exist? I don't know, but the only way to find out is to post the postion (outside), isn't it?

Promoting from within is just fine... IF all other options are explored first. Especially when the citizens of Quincy are footing the bill.

2:57

How long you been in Quincy? Let me introduce you to the Springs, Hagstroms, Reis, Grussy, Niewy crowds.......

Anonymous said...

My point exactly. It just doesn't stop.

WOW, I don't know what to say!

Maybe I shouldn't have retired from politics! Didn't realize I had that much clout! To be mentioned in the same sentence as the current mayor and the former mayor. I am sure you would have had Chucks name on that list if he would not have had his recent illness. Oh My! Maybe I should reconsider my decison!

Thanks for making me take a better look at this decison!

;)

p.s. no mention of JJ??? *shakes head*

I think 2:57 is talking about the rampant patronage, cronyism and nepotism that doesn't exist it only appears that way in Quincy city government, not the supposed political clout you gave up when you "retired".

"rampant patronage, cronyism and nepotism that doesn't exist it only appears that way in Quincy city government"

???? WTF ????

When the city prints the payroll in the QHW, it looks like a redneck family tree that doesn't fork !!!!

Anonymous said...

I was kidding. It only "appears that way", because that's the way it is. They always give the same lame excuse, "well, some people will read that into this, but he/she is best qualified candidate". They somehow know this even though no one else was considered.

Anon 8:26

Anonymous said...

Well if you are going to talk about the city lets talk about the County also!!!!

Who is Totsch in thhe County Clerks office related too?

Why were Farha, and Lovelace hired into the States attorneys office? Were these jobs posted in the paper?

Anonymous said...

I'd love to see a current copy of the County Payroll. Bet I could name the political or family affiliation of over 75% of these employee's.

Anonymous said...

Hey 6:55

Don't forget to mention the worst Deputy in Adams County history! You forgot to mention that Chad Tuzzo was hired under the Nall/McCoy Administration. His grandfather was a MAJOR contributer to the Nall Campaign. Tuzzo went straight out of college and onto the Drug Task Force Nall and McCoy allowed him to lay on HogBack while on our taxpayer dime.

Damn dirty Democrats! Oops, these people are repub so this could not be true!

Anonymous said...

7:57

Now do the City. You'll get more than one example.

Anonymous said...

Hey Quincy City , here is the QH-W's phone number to place job opening ads (217) 222-7600, call Liz, she'll take care of ya.

That's (217) 222-7600.

Anonymous said...

7:33

That's double-dip Grussy.

Anonymous said...

Brian Musholt was hired by Nall/McCoy and his father was a major contributor to the Nall campaign.

Anonymous said...

The subject of city hires has been beat to death. Why don't the Republicans that are upset ask thier 4th Ward Alderman who is on the hiring committee if the want better insight on the subject?

Now lets talk about who the County has hired and Why! They should be fair game also!

Anonymous said...

or is this a one sided site?

Anonymous said...

Lootie,

regardless of why they were hired, were these positions posted in the paper prior to thier hire?

Anonymous said...

Carper didn't go through the hiring committee

Anonymous said...

Is it right for the county to do the somthing but not the city?

Anonymous said...

There is a Repub on the presonnel committee also.

Anonymous said...

Fitch and Sassen are on the personnel commitee.

Anonymous said...

Why don't you tell us how this "hiring committee" works?

Anonymous said...

The Carper safety postion went throught the personnel committee. This committe includes 2 Democrats and 2 Republicans. To make an accusation of wrong doing would have to be an accusation towards BOTH politcal parties!

Anonymous said...

Why don't you pick up the phone and ask one of the 4 alderman involved? Seek the truth not hollow accusations.

Anonymous said...

Now how does the County hire?

Do they have a personnnel department or is each OFFICEHOLDER allowed to choose thier hires?

Anonymous said...

I see no mention of a hiring department on the Official Adams County website.

Anonymous said...

"The Carper safety postion went throught the personnel committee."

Who were the others considered?

Anonymous said...

Nope no Hiring committe either. Looks like they are only concerned with the matter listed below.

The County Board currently utilizes four primary committees. Each board member is assigned to one of these committees. There are several other minor committees, sub-committees, and assignments.

4 candidates. ask the committee members, they'll tell you. Don't be lazy, do your own research before you make accusations.

Anonymous said...

Hell ask Lootie, he knows the answer to that question also.

Anonymous said...

Lootie

Who were the 4 candidates?

Anonymous said...

10:18

I see you are still not concerned with the county hiring practices. Are we being One sided?

Anonymous said...

Aweful easy to point that finger at someone else instead of looking at ones self. Figured someone of the Repub nature being a good christian would adhere to the christian teaching of "He who is without sin should cast the first stone".

Anonymous said...

10:21,10:23

If you think there is no patronage, cronyism or nepotism in city government, ths discussion is pointless. Not sure what God has to do with Carper getting a sweetheart deal, but you found a way.

Anonymous said...

On a side note.

In regards to the previous discussion where Mr. Farha and Mr. Lovelace were mentioned, no ill will was intended in the above comments. They were being used as an example of County hiring practices compared to City hiring practices. I would never question thier ability or the quality of job they perform. I think they both do a great job!

Anonymous said...

ooops almost forgot, and they are quality people.

"No hard hat= write up "

Are you kidding??? Randy wear that thing with pride! don't know, but I bet he has a QND sticker on that helmet.

Anonymous said...

QND ranked # 10 in FB in 4A.

Raider power up your ass, Lootie LOL!

Does QHS even have a football team?
Hear they play a mean soccer.

Also, Irish ranked # 2 in AP, where's your Tide rollin in?

Anonymous said...

"ALSO QND with Wild Bill has a PROGRAM ! I go there on Fridays to watch real BALL also ."

what great atmosphere they have. Being a QHS product I am not ashamed to say i attend as many QND games as possible. Can't beat being able to stand 10 ft. from the sideline and see up close and personal tackling. Plus where else can you step outside the gate at halftime (or before the game) and have a good German Brew.

;)

p.s. OK I must concede that it not quite as good as Palmyra where you can plant your ass on the West sideline and drink beer in the back of a grain truck.

Anonymous said...

Palmyra Sucks.

Hey Lootie, thought I had a say, I was the one that shifted it to NCAA Football. Anyway, the IRL is better racing anyone, but I didn't say that, don't want to get bum-rushed by a buunch of white-trash rednecks. Speaking of that, did anyone see the crowd at Fierge's when Kenny Wallace was there couple of weeks ago. Yikes. Question is, who is doing 2 for 1 tattoos?

Anonymous said...

Ya , Lootie, that's cause ND plays the toughest schedule, year after year. Remember when they opened up at Nebraska (when Neb was good, wadn't that long ago). They always paly a top notch schedule, no cup-cakes.

Anonymous said...

ND plays the toughest schedule? With Navy, Army and other top notch national title contenders? The middle of its schedule this year is really soft.

Well somehow we went way off topic to mix college football with Johnny Spring's latest gaff. While it seems everyone has been trying to expose the lack of a job posting or even whether a posting was required in that it was a non-bargaining unit position, the most overlooked point is that the kid has no knowledge of the position of which he has been appointed.

The Peter Principal Redux.

Furthermore, what ability to understand the job requirements does anyone on the personnel committee or even city council have?
I argue that the likes of R. L. Brink, Diamond Construction, Rees Construction, Reichert, all of the ready mix companies would find Mr. Carper inept, even for training purposes.

Is it too much for our department heads to keep abreast of these items? Isn't it what being a department head is all about? Don't they have a basic H.R. understanding so that they don't get themselves in trouble regarding matters of compliancy? Of course they do, otherwise they would be smack in the middle of littigation all of the time.

Safety issues as well as OSHA compliance IS the responsibility of department heads as well as crew chiefs or foremen.

To dispose of the matter in the fashion Mr. Spring has developed is assinine.

Our risk manager boy handles insurance claims and is clueless as to what constitutes a hazard in house or out on a work site. This is the guy Mayor yonnie deputized as the HR boy. Prior to the election, he was busy failing as a securities salesman selling annuities after a career of being an asskisser for Moormans, but I digress.

Spring, if he had any brains, and he doesn't, he's a political hack now, should have sought an outside agency to screen qualified canidates to be a risk manager/safety guru/compliance officer.

Instead, we will create a genius out of an idiot by buying him some books for his bookcase and sending him away for some seminars. Then he'll be an EXPERT.

Anonymous said...

Lootie

Who was doing the pimp smacking before?
No one, the job isn't needed.

Anonymous said...

Lootie:

Now you're thinkin like a demercrat.

'Hire someone'.

Why not tell all employees of central services that if they get caught in a trench without a box they're toast. Have them sign a receipt acknowledging they understand the seriousness of being in a trench without protection.

You don't have to hire someone to do that. Department heads are being paid big bucks to accept responsibility. They need to step up...or step down.

Furthermore, Carper was hired to be the OSHA kid, not the risk manager. We still don't have a professional in either capacity.

We have two wannabes and that was my whole point, which was lost on you.

This is a wonderful opinion. The things mentioned are unanimous and needs to be appreciated by everyone.
