  10. What about the Assistant Chief that is living outside the city limits and is not in the union. According to the rules He is supposed to live inside the city limits if he is not covered under the union contract. Also, this is the same Assistant Chief who years ago fired a handgun at the airport causing another firefighter hearing loss and nothing was done about it because his step dad is Mr. Mays. Isn't all this just as bad as what they are trying to hang the current 3 firefighters for? Not to mention that firing a hand gun on Airport grounds is a felony. Does anyone have an opinion on this? My New Years Resolution: Why should the three fire fighters get in trouble when two other incidents have gone unpunished in the past!

    ReplyDelete
  11. That sounds very interesting! I never heard about that. It must have been swept under the carpet or paid by Mr. Mays to be kept out of the press!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Do we know what they are trying to hang the current firefighters for? This would helpful information in answering your question.

  13. Is there a new asst on shift 3?

  14. There is no new asst. chief on shift 3. All three firefighters that are off, are still on paid leave pending an investigation which will supposedly continue January 23rd. The three firefighters and three female employees were let go for using the email system for personal use. As if they are the only City employees who do this. Anyways, the three girls were fired pretty much immediately and the only reason the guys are hanging on is because they have a Union to back them up. Ane people wonder why there are Unions. This is the reason people!!! The whole thing is ridiculous and a waste of tax payers money. The City tax payers should be screaming their heads off. There are much bigger crimes being committed on City time. Everyone uses the email system for personal use. Give me a break! This is a policy that was signed back in 2001 and has never been brought up since then and has never been enforced on anyone. These six were set up and framed for a ridiculous reason. Why?

  15. Dear Free Ringtones,

I have four easy words for you. Listen closely.

    You Are An Idiot!

    ReplyDelete
  16. "There are much bigger crimes being committed on City time."

You have no proof of this.

    ReplyDelete
  17. "These six were set up and framed for a ridiculous reason."

    What was the reason?

    ReplyDelete
  18. It can't be just abuse of using city Email for personal use that is the reason. It is either something bigger than that or there is some other underlying reason. If it is just the use of email for personal reasons then there has to be several city employees waiting in the wings to be fired. If that were the case, there would be virtually no one left working for the City.

Maybe a "city family member" needs a job and they are opening some positions???

    ReplyDelete
  19. Out with the non machine and in with the chosen ones.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 3:16 is correct. There must be more to it. Taxpayers have the right to know. Beyond speculation and rumor we may never.

Why wouldn't the Whig's reporter go ask for one or all of the fired gal's versions? So far they have only reprted the Cty's side of the story and we're supposed to take it as gospel. Bunch of crap!

    ReplyDelete
  21. There are bigger crimes being committed on City time and I do have proof. It will most likely come out. Also, it was just over personal email use and that is the truth. If you know any of the six involved, they are all scratching their heads in frustration also. They would love nothing more than to get back to work and do the jobs they were doing.

    ReplyDelete
  22. What is your theory on why these six were targeted?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think until we know exactly what these six did we can only assume. I feel bad for the six because I have been close to city officials in the past and I know how these types of operations work. I saw were the one guy posted that the commissioners want a back bone for a new years resolution. People, I know all three of these commissioners personally. They don't want anything to do with this and would love for somebody else to have to make the decision. For their sake they are in luck. The commissioners are a board that was indented to make these types of decisions so city officials with agendas could not just fire at will. Unfortunately for the firefighters the commissioners aren't the ones calling the shots like they should be. Three people were fired back in November. The city will open themselves up to a huge mess if these three firefighters don't get the same. That is the troubling part for people like me to deal with. The bottom line is this. There were people making mistakes in the way they used city time and equipment. We all agree, and no matter the severity they were wrong. The problem is the city's consistency on how they handle these matters. It is a fact of life that nepotism is as strong as ever in Quincy. If it works in your favor you are set. I think we all see what happens when you’re not in. Don't be surprised either to see that the city in all of their wisdom has screwed this whole thing up from the day they first started this process. Past occurrences will show the people running the city may need to do their homework before getting into what they don't know anything about. What concerns me as a tax payer and a person who is concerned with how people are treated is that in all my experiences I have had with the city the firefighters will in the end get their jobs back. It will be a long road and may take some high lawyer fees but in the end they will get their jobs back due to the arbitration and appeal steps they are granted for being a part of their union. What does any of this mean? I think of all the money spent so far and the money still to be spent and I wonder what did we actually gain. What has come of it? I'm sorry but the Herald Whig has no where come close to it's financial forecast in this whole ordeal. To their credit the city will not tell them exacts or they will make it sound like it is impossible to find those kinds of number in a short amount of time. For instance, they have this running total for the firefighters and I think it's up to 60k. That is probably the firefighter’s base pay. What you don't get is the over time that is being paid to the rest of the firefighters covering for these three. These are easy numbers for the department to provide by simply looking at their daily reports and who is working. It is all right there. I don't know what these six did and I’m pretty sure they didn't steal or kill so handle it in a professional matter and discipline the crime and move on. The Republicans in the next mayoral election will eat this alive. This will be a test to see how strong the Democratic Party is and they are very strong in Quincy but many democrats are shaking their heads on this one. It all starts at the top.

  24. Cheep Seat,

Wow!!! Thank you! The whole mess started over inappropriate emails. They were not inappropriate between the people receiving them. I really believe Mayor Spring is trying to make a "moral" stand. The thing is, he doesn't know one thing about any of these individuals he's played with. Why do people in power think they have the right to play God? I just don't get it? I wish the powers to to be would realize what they've done and stop it and make things right. Anyways, thank you Cheep Seat for making such an enlightening post.

  25. For sale, CHEAP!!!

    30 used ash trays

One slightly used smoke filtration system

  26. Damn it's cold outside!
Oh well, it's time to celebrate because I can actually wear my coat into the Abbey tonight without taking directly to the dry cleaners tomorrow.
It is so nice that the smokers no longer have control of the air. My family will actually get to go to the Abbey for dinner. My 10 year old daughter is even excited.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Mack'Donalds @ 13th & Bwy was smoke free, as was Kriegers. Thank god for small favors!

Quote of the day from the no-smoking sign making guy: "If it has four walls and a roof, you'll need no-smoking signs".

    ReplyDelete
  28. This does not bode well for the dry cleaner business either.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It is so nice that the smokers no longer have control of the air.

Is it also nice the government also controls your life?

    Everyones day is coming.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The government has always had control of our lives. Don't kid yourself. The smoking ban is one governmental control that is more than welcome.
To you it's not about governmental control, it is about you having to go outside to freeze your ass off to support your habit. Finally it is the smokers who have to ask themselves if they want to go in a place because they cannot smoke as oppose to the non-smokers asking themselves if they really want to smell like that shit until their next shower and trip to the laundry.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Right on, it was always "If smoking offends you, feel free to go somewhere smoke free.” Bullshit! Why should people who want clean air have to run around avoiding smokers?

That's why the law was needed, smokers have no respect for anyone except themselves and their petty little habits.

Feel free to go anywhere now & enjoy clean air. Isn't it funny how government “control" opens up opportunities?

  33. Unprotected homosexual sex kills more
people than second hand smoke. Ban it next.

First of all , smoking kills more than aids.

Secondly, I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body LOL

    ReplyDelete
  36. Smoking is not against the law. Smoking in your own business is. Second hand smoke deaths are junk science.

Highway accidents kill more people than second hand smoke. Lower the speed limit to 5 mph.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 2:30

No, we'll just stick with the smoke-free IL Act 95-0017, thank you very much, though!

    ReplyDelete
  38. OK then, maybe you're just a trans fat eating lard ass. Get your fat ass off the couch and exercise. Fatassness kills more people than second hand smoke.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Can the city workers still smoke in their vehicles smoke nazi?

    ReplyDelete
  40. That depends on who daddy is. Sometimes you get to carry a loaded gun.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I understand that. I'm asking if tha phone number will work to report the nepotistic whores who drive around smoking all day.

    ReplyDelete
  42. they are not allowed to smoke in there trucks, phone them in

    ReplyDelete
  43. amazing how only one person has been posting here.....

  44. Funny thing is , every damn business in illini land has to buy and put up those damn signs . Fucking clown shoes

  45. It is so nice that the smokers no longer have control of the air. My family will actually get to go to the Abbey for dinner. My 10 year old daughter is even excited.

Have her enjoy it while she can.

Soon she won't enjoy the food anymore because big brother will say she's overweight and can have any of the Abby's deep fried food.

    Least she'll smell better.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hmmm, fairly reliable sources say the 6 fired workers made some naughty videos, and then actually put them on their work computer!

just personal emails?? come on, I mean this is Quincy but still, it had to be more than that.

    ReplyDelete

You must be the big gay lard ass

    ReplyDelete
  48. 5:48
Her being "too fat" or eating to get that way does not cause YOUR chances of being fat to increase. Your secondhand smoke can damn sure cause her and others to have several different types of respitory problems. Are you not smart enough to see the difference?

    ReplyDelete
  49. 645

Now do it using unprotected gay sex as an example. See?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Heart disease killed over 29,000 in Illinois last year. Do you think all of them were "smoke" related?

There is no proof positive on second hand smoke.

If you think there is, please show us.

    ReplyDelete
  51. gay or hetero sex, there is no difference in the case of a person knowingling giving another a deadly disease without having some liability for doing so.

A baseball bat is legal....until you use it to assault someone.

  55. AHA Scientific Position

Obesity is defined simply as too much body fat. Your body is made up of water, fat, protein, carbohydrate and various vitamins and minerals. If you have too much fat — especially in your waist area — you're at higher risk for health problems, including high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Obesity is now recognized as a major risk factor for coronary heart disease, which can lead to heart attack. Some reasons for this higher risk are known, but others are not. For example, obesity

    * raises blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
    * lowers HDL "good" cholesterol. HDL cholesterol is linked with lower heart disease and stroke risk, so reducing it tends to raise the risk.
    * raises blood pressure levels.
    * can induce diabetes. In some people, diabetes makes these other risk factors much worse. The danger of heart attack is especially high for these people.

Even when there are no adverse effects on the known risk factors, obesity by itself increases risk of heart disease. It also harms more than just the heart and blood vessel system. It's a major cause of gallstones and can worsen degenerative joint disease.

Obesity is mainly caused by taking in more calories than are used up in physical activity and daily life. When people eat too many calories, or too much saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol, their blood cholesterol levels often rise. That raises their risk of heart disease.

Here's a bit of advice for you next time you're in Haiti looking for a date. Unprotected gay sex is higher risk than hetero.

It has also killed more people than second hand smoke.

"Bible dumbass" Words spoken like a true Christian.
The bible doesn't prove shit. It is fiction written by men. If you actually believe some guy named Noah put two of every animal on an arc he built and that 40 days and 40 nights of rain covered the entire earth, you aren't worth debating.

    ReplyDelete
  58. yet you believe the surgeon generals report on second-hand smoke ???

    More fiction.

    ReplyDelete
  59. What are all you non-smoker doing here bitching about smoking ???

Thought all of you were going out and pack the bars to celebrate the smoking ban ???

    ReplyDelete
  60. I just want to say the work FUCK.

  62. Re: Smoking
    As a smoker I don't feel it's that big of a deal.
    Cold out? Don't go out.
Go out to smoke and you're cold? Move to a warmer climate.
It's a change we need to manage and accept.
If someone disagrees, then get to work on the problem. It's your government, instigate a change. Not sure how to go about it? Contact the ACLU.
